Questions
Frequently asked questions
What Aera is, how the program works, and how to get started.
For patients
What is Aera?
Aera is a digital pulmonary rehabilitation program for adults living with COPD. It guides daily breathing exercises, daily symptom check-ins, and progress tracking at home, and is designed to keep your care team in the loop.
What is pulmonary rehabilitation?
Pulmonary rehabilitation is a structured program of breathing exercises, physical activity, and education designed to support people living with chronic lung conditions in their daily lives. It is a recognized part of standard COPD care, usually guided by a clinician.
Can pulmonary rehab be done at home?
Yes — home-based pulmonary rehabilitation is increasingly common. Aera supports an at-home routine of guided breathing exercises and daily check-ins that complements the care plan from your clinician.
What is pursed-lip breathing?
Pursed-lip breathing is a common technique taught in pulmonary rehabilitation: you breathe in slowly through your nose, then breathe out gently through pursed lips, like blowing out a candle. Aera guides you through it step by step.
Does Aera replace my doctor or my pulmonary rehab clinic?
No. Aera is a supportive tool, not a replacement for medical care. It is designed to work alongside your clinician and care team, who remain responsible for your treatment decisions.
Is Aera a medical device or a treatment for COPD?
Aera is a supportive, educational program for daily routine and self-management. It is not a treatment, diagnosis, or cure, and it does not make medical decisions. Always follow your clinician’s guidance.
Who is Aera designed for?
Aera is built for adults living with COPD — and for the families who help care for them. The experience is designed to be accessible for older adults, with large text, plain language, and an optional voice assistant.
How does Aera work day to day?
Each day, Aera guides you through your breathing exercises, a short check-in on how you are feeling, and optional logging of readings like blood oxygen (SpO₂). Your progress is organized in one place you can review and share with your care team.
For families
Can my family help me use Aera?
Yes. Aera is designed so a family member or caregiver can help set it up and stay involved, which many families find reassuring.
Is my health information private?
Privacy is core to Aera’s design. The platform is built privacy-forward, and within the Aera program you control who can see your data. Aera follows a HIPAA-aligned roadmap. This public website does not collect personal health information.
For clinicians
How do patients get started with Aera?
You can request access on aerahealth.us. Many patients are introduced to Aera through their clinician or pulmonary rehab program; clinicians can also request to bring Aera to their patients.
Is Aera available outside the United States?
This site (aerahealth.us) serves the United States. Aera’s parent company, Frontline Healthcare Holdings, operates related programs in other regions.
